  5. graduate student who last fall bedeviled two national computer
  6. networks linking universities, corporations and the military by
  7. infecting them with a computer virus. Morris' mischievous
  8. software program was apparently intended to produce a slow
  9. disruption of the networks. But a minor mistake in the
  10. instructions caused the virus to identify secret passwords, shut
  11. down systems and replicate itself uncontrollably. While no
  12. criminal charges have been filed against Morris, Cornell barred
  13. him from classes until fall 1990.
